Origins of Agrotrop

Prior to the establishment of Agrotrop Plantation Sdn Bhd (Agrotrop) in 1989, our founder, Mr T. Vanialingam had 25 years of experience with in-depth focus on Research & Commercialization of Oil Palm, Cocoa & Coconut, through varied corporations in Malaysia and the Philippines.

His research findings contributed to the development of the F1 DxP Oil Palm planting material, which led to the Advanced Research in Oil Palm Breeding & Agronomy. Hybrid Cocoa & Coconut was also included in his research endeavors.

From 1989 to the present day, Agrotrop has become one of the leading agronomic consultancy firms and the brand is synonymous with providing plantation advisory services that are focused on ethical business practices, empowerment of the labour force and navigating disruptive trends that permeates the agricultural sector.

Agrotrop is predominantly focused on conducting land assessments, feasibility studies, soil survey analysis, and monitoring the productivity and yields of various plantation land mainly in Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Cambodia and the Philippines.

From 2001 to 2013, Agrotrop established an oil palm and hybrid coconut seed production programme for National Land Finance Co-operative Society Limited (“National Land”) and assisted the organisation in obtaining its certification from the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia. Agrotrop expanded its expertise to Indonesia in 1995 to provide agronomic advice, from selecting the best planting materials to the establishment of nurseries for approximately 20,000 hectares of oil palm plantation land in Pulau Bangka, Indonesia.

Over the years, Agrotrop has provided services ranging from land assessments, feasibility studies and soil survey analysis to more than 25 clients with over 283,381 hectares of plantations. Of these 25 clients, 11 of them collectively own a total plantation area of more than 180,471 hectares in Indonesia. The rendered services include providing technical approaches toward sourcing and securing quality planting materials, advocating ethical nursery practices, recommending appropriate fertilizer programmes and formulating agricultural policies that serve as a mandate for plantation companies to adhere to best practices and guidelines to succeed in the agricultural sector.
